About Michigan Accessible Homes


Michigan Accessible Homes is an architectural firm focused on the design of accessible residences throughout the state of Michigan.  We encourage you to contact us if:


  • You or a family member has a disability, and you want to make your home work better for yourself and your family;

  • You have friends or relatives with disabilities, that you want to accommodate in your home.

  • You want to plan ahead to allow yourself to stay in your home longer (often called "aging in place").


Michigan Accessible Homes is a division of Cornerstone Design Inc, an architectural firm based in Ann Arbor since 1989, and working throughout the state of Michigan on commercial and residential projects. Michigan Accessible Homes is managed by David Esau, AIA, LEED AP, a principal of Cornerstone Design Inc and a noted specialist in accessibility issues for people with disabilities. In addition to his work on many accessible single-family residences, David helped develop ADA in ACTION, a program of the Ann Arbor CIL (now Disability Network Washtenaw Monroe Livingston) that evaluated hundreds of government and business facilities in Michigan for compliance with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). David has also written and spoken extensively about the ADA, Universal Design, and accessibility in general.
